ViaLinx.io is an ISP-managed WAN failover companion app. When a router loses its primary internet connection, the router coordinates with this phone over the local Wi-Fi network, and the phone provides cellular backup connectivity to the router through an encrypted VPN tunnel. This restores internet access for the devices behind the router. Users cannot pick VPN servers. The VPN only carries router-to-cloud backup traffic over cellular and activates only during a router failover event. Your personal phone browsing is never routed for anonymity, and your web traffic is never logged by the app.
1. About This App
ViaLinx.io is a connectivity companion app operated as a managed service. Its single purpose is to deliver always-on internet to a home or business network by acting as an automatic cellular backup path when the primary wired internet connection (WAN) fails.
When the router detects a loss of its primary internet, it communicates with the ViaLinx app on a paired phone over the local Wi-Fi network. The app then relays the router's backup traffic over the phone's cellular connection (LTE/5G) through an encrypted tunnel, using the standard Android VpnService API. Once the primary connection is restored, the backup path is released automatically.
2. Information We Process
The app is designed to process the minimum information required to deliver failover connectivity. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Network and connectivity information
- Wi-Fi network name (SSID): read locally to confirm the phone is connected to an authorized ViaLinx-compatible router before backup can be activated.
- Cellular signal and carrier diagnostics: radio access type (RAT) and signal strength (e.g. RSRP) are read to assess the quality of the backup relay and for connection telemetry and diagnostics.
- Backup relay traffic: during an active failover event, the encrypted router backup traffic passes through the cellular connection. This traffic is relayed, not inspected, and the content of user web traffic is not logged by the app.
- Device identifier: the app generates a device identifier used to register your phone as an authorized backup node for your router and to associate connectivity telemetry with the correct device.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect or transmit your physical location. The location permission is used only to read the Wi-Fi SSID, as required by the operating system.
- We do not log your personal web browsing, the websites you visit, or the content of your communications.
- We do not route your everyday phone browsing through the VPN for anonymity purposes.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, messages, microphone, or camera.
3. Permissions and Why They Are Needed
The app requests only the permissions required to provide reliable always-on backup connectivity. Each permission and its purpose is listed below.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| VPN (BIND_VPN_SERVICE) | To relay the router's encrypted backup traffic over the cellular network during a failover event. The VPN carries only router backup traffic, not your personal browsing. |
| Foreground service & notification | To display an ongoing notification while the backup service is active, so you always know when cellular backup is in use. |
| Battery optimization exemption | To keep the backup service alive so failover protection remains always-on and can respond instantly when the primary connection drops. |
| Location (fine) | Used ONLY to read the current Wi-Fi network name (SSID) for router authorization, as required by Android. No location is collected, stored, or transmitted. |
| Phone state | To read carrier and signal information (RAT / RSRP) for relay telemetry and connection diagnostics. |
4. How Information Is Used
The information processed by the app is used solely to:
- Authorize the phone to act as a backup node for a specific compatible router.
- Establish, maintain, and optimize the encrypted cellular backup connection during a failover event.
- Provide connection telemetry and diagnostics to keep the failover service reliable.
- Show you a clear notification while backup connectivity is active.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Backup relay traffic and connectivity telemetry may be processed by the ViaLinx cloud service (the LinxBo.io™ platform) and, where the service is provided through your internet service provider, shared with that provider for the purpose of operating and supporting the failover service. We share information only as needed to deliver the service or as required by law.
6. Data Retention
Connectivity telemetry and diagnostic information are retained only for as long as necessary to operate, troubleshoot, and improve the failover service. The content of user web traffic is not logged and therefore is not retained.
7. Security
Backup traffic between the router, the phone, and the cloud relay is encrypted. We apply technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information processed by the app against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
8. Children's Privacy
The app is intended for use by internet subscribers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information associated with the service. You can also stop all processing at any time by disconnecting the backup, revoking the VPN permission, or uninstalling the app. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
